This Ice-Age America project includes everything you need (except a pencil and your oven) to make a replica of three Ice-Age spears (12 inches in length) and a Native American axe (also 12 inches). Combine this with the companion books on Ice-Age American natives and you have a complete unit on Ice-Age American Art.
The Ice-Age America art project allows one student to make a replica of three real Ice-Age spears (two Clovis points and one Gypsum Cave point) and a replica of a Native American axe. The packet includes all of the supplies needed. You supply a few common tools (scissors, glue, a pencil, an oven, a student); we supply detailed instructions, and your student will be able to produce a beautiful and lasting work of art. Children as young as 8 (with adult help) and as old as high school (on their own) will enjoy this project as they learn about Ice-Age American art.
Combine this project with our recommended companion books and history will come alive for your student. Two of the recommended “living books” are Eyr the Hunter: a Story of Ice-Age America and You Wouldn’t Want to Be a Mammoth Hunter.
Eyr is the captivating story of an Ice-Age boy and his quest to provide for his family. This book was written by a talented cultural anthropologist from the University of Alabama. Your student will learn about the culture as they enjoy the story.
The second book You Wouldn’t Want to be a Mammoth Hunter describes in a funny and entertaining manner, the tools and techniques of hunting mammoths in Europe and North America.
