Mound Builder's Spear Thrower Project

$14.95

This Mound Builder project includes everything you need (except a pencil and your oven) to make a replica of a Native American spear thrower and a southeastern woodlands necklace. Combine this with the two companion books on Mound Builder Indians and you have a complete unit on Native American Mound Builders.

The Mound Builder art project allows one student to make a replica of a real Native American spear thrower and a replica of a southeastern woodlands necklace. The packet includes all of the supplies needed. You supply a few common tools (scissors, glue, a pencil, an oven, a student); we supply detailed instructions, and your student will be able to produce a beautiful and lasting work of art. Children as young as 8 (with adult help) and as old as high school (on their own) will enjoy this project as they learn about Mound Builder art.

Combine this project with our two recommended companion books and history will come alive for your student. The two recommended “living books” are Ikwa of the Mound Builder Indians and Mounds of Earth and Shell.

Ikwa is the captivating story of a young mound builder girl and her family written by a talented cultural anthropologist from the University of Alabama. Your student will learn about the culture as they enjoy the story.

The second book Mounds of Earth and Shell describes the mounds that this group of natives built, and their tools, including spear throwers and banner stones.
